Leeds-based newcomers For You The Moon face the harsh reality of post-break up heartache head on with new single “Talk”.
“Talk” follows the band’s acclaimed debut single “Lost Without It”, and showcases their sonic dexterity, flexing with big pop melodies and devastatingly honest lyricism. The soundscape of fizzy guitars act as the perfect backdrop for Isaac Cooter's soaring, cathartic vocals.
The accompanying video takes the emotional subject matter to astounding new heights with all members of For You The Moon putting themselves in the frame for their first narrative-driven music video.
Isaac Cooter explains further: “Talk” gets straight to the point. The opening lyrics completely encapsulate that painful time post-relationship where you’re watching your life with someone disintegrate in front of you. It’s set in those painful few weeks before you’ve completely let them go and you’re both still talking to each other every day, almost to help ease the pain.
I wanted to write a more intimate song that felt like a conversation, dealing with those withdrawal-like symptoms of losing someone but underpinned by the knowledge that it’s better if you both go your separate ways. Sometimes it’s hard to see, or even believe, that at first. And as much as “Talk” is filled with those throwaway lines that you tell yourself to help you get through it, it acknowledges all those feelings of doubt, wondering whether you’ve done the right thing and if you’ll even get through this without that person.”
“Talk” is taken from For You The Moon’s debut EP, set for release later this year via Slam Dunk Records. Since they burst onto the scene in late November last year, For You The Moon received instant support from tastemaker music press such as Kerrang!, Rock Sound, Upset in the UK as well as US publications, achieved spot plays on the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show and were named as BBC Introducing West Yorkshire’s ‘One’s To Watch in 2021’.
Bonding over a love of Bring Me The Horizon, Basement, The Killers and The Band Camino at a house party, For You The Moon quickly found focus. Even with rock at their heart, For You The Moon take cues from the delicate modern pop of artists such as MUNA and JP Saxe – to name a few. Their distillation of messy adolescent emotions into their own soaring pop-rock hooks with transformative lyricism is a testament to their own creativity, integrity and vulnerability.
For You The Moon, Isaac Cooter (vocals/guitar), Jordan (guitar), Tim (bass) and Mike (drums), write alternative rock songs for people that overshare, overthink and have a hard time not being honest. “It gets me in trouble a lot of the time”, Isaac admits, “I always try and stick to the truth as much as possible when I’m writing, using situations I’ve been in as fuel, these songs end up making you get over the issue or they plunge you straight back into it”.
