Review - Drag Me Down (Survive)

Your favourite Swindon-based whatevercore band Drag Me Down are back at it again with their latest single 'Survive'. This relentless trio have continued to hone their sound over the past couple years, whilst nestling into their niche in the scene. With bounds of energy and optimistic lyricism, Drag Me Down proudly set themselves aside from their self-pitying counterparts.

Following on from their EP ‘New Today Better Tomorrow’ released back in September, new single ‘Survive’ is a prime example of how far Drag Me Down have come, and just how much more they’re capable of.

Opening the track with their trademark radio-filtered intro, ‘Survive’ quickly picks up the pace with bouncy riffs and deafening drum fills. ‘Survive’ is a self-proclaimed ode to the chaos that was the past year, and everyone who survived through it. Lead singer Oscar offers up yet another infectiously catchy chorus “Slow down/ I know it can be hard to figure out/ Take it easy”, an instant (and welcome) earworm.

Packed with dynamics, uncompromising musicality, and some incredibly tight production from producer Zac Pritchett, ‘Survive’ is by far DMDs best work yet.

There’s something exciting about Drag Me Down, and where they’re heading, and armed with a potential breakout song as good as ‘Survive’, I think you’d be hard pushed to disagree with me.
